This Ford Raptor R came to our shop in Austin with one clear request from the owner: protect the factory paint and change the whole personality of the truck at the same time. The answer was XPEL Stealth, XPEL’s matte paint protection film, applied across the painted body.
The result is what you see here. The green paint now reads as a deep satin finish, the Raptor R’s lines look sharper, and every panel underneath is protected from rock chips, scratches and the kind of abuse a truck like this is built to go looking for.

Why XPEL Stealth on a Raptor R
A Raptor R is not a garage queen. It is a supercharged desert truck that gets driven on highways, ranch roads and trails, and its paint takes the hits that come with that: gravel, branches, sand and road debris thrown by those big all-terrain tires.
XPEL Stealth gives the same protection as a clear gloss film, with a self-healing top coat that makes light swirls and scratches disappear with heat. The difference is the look. Stealth turns gloss paint into a uniform satin finish without repainting or vinyl wrapping, and it can come off later to reveal the original factory paint.

A big truck needs big panels
The Raptor R’s hood, fenders and doors are large and heavily sculpted. Every bulge, vent and body line has to be wrapped with the film stretched just enough to lay flat, without lifting, distortion or visible seams in the matte finish.
Matte film is less forgiving than gloss: any fingerprint, stretch mark or trapped dust shows as a change in texture. That is why the prep, the slip solution and the squeegee technique matter even more on a Stealth install than on a standard clear one.

Rear quarters and bedsides
The bedsides of a Raptor R take a constant beating from what the rear tires throw up. We wrapped the bed panels with the film tucked carefully around the wide fender flares and the tail lights, so the edges stay hidden and protected.
Look at how the satin finish meets the black flares and trim. With the gloss gone, the truck reads as one solid, factory-looking color from nose to tailgate.

The details: hood, grille area and headlights
The front end is where a truck collects the most damage. The hood, bumper surround and the painted areas around the grille were protected with Stealth, finished cleanly around the headlights, the hood vents and the Raptor R badging.
Clean edges around the lights and emblems are what separate a professional installation from a quick one. Up close, the film should be invisible, and only the satin finish should give it away.

The tailgate and the Raptor R badge
The tailgate is one of the most visible panels on any truck, and one of the most handled. Stealth protects it from scratches caused by loading, keys and daily use, while the satin finish makes the blacked-out Raptor R badge stand out even more.

How to care for a matte PPF finish
Matte film needs different care than gloss paint. Never wax or polish it, since that will create shiny spots. Wash it by hand with a pH-neutral soap, avoid automatic car washes with brushes, and dry it with a clean microfiber towel.
For extra protection and easier cleaning, a ceramic coating made specifically for matte finishes can be applied on top of the film. It keeps the satin look intact and helps dirt and water slide off.
