What to know

What is a vinyl car wrap?

A vinyl wrap is a thin, flexible film applied over your vehicle’s painted panels to change its color or finish. Premium cast films from 3M and Avery Dennison stretch around curves and recesses for a paint-like look, in hundreds of colors and finishes from gloss and satin to matte, metallic and color-shift.

Unlike a repaint, a wrap is not permanent. When you want a new look or it’s time to sell, the film can be removed and the factory paint underneath is still there. That makes wraps a popular choice for leased cars, new vehicles and anyone who likes to change things up.

You can wrap the whole vehicle, just a few panels like the roof, hood or mirrors, or only the chrome trim. Every wrap is installed by our team at our Southwest Austin shop.

Benefits

Why wrap your car instead of painting it

Hundreds of colors and finishes

Choose from gloss, satin, matte, metallic, carbon fiber and color-shift films to get exactly the look you want.

Protects your factory paint

The film shields the paint underneath from UV fading, light scratches and everyday wear while it’s on the car.

Fully removable

Ready for a change or selling the car? The wrap comes off and leaves your original paint behind.

More affordable than a quality repaint

A wrap costs less than a high-quality paint job and won’t affect a factory finish the way a respray does.

Faster turnaround

Most wraps take a fraction of the time a full repaint does, so you get your car back sooner.

Protects resale value

Keeping the factory paint intact helps your vehicle hold its value, especially on leased and luxury cars.

FAQ

Vinyl wrap questions

Answers to the questions Austin drivers ask us most about car wraps.

How much does a vinyl wrap cost in Austin, TX?

Full color change wraps start at $3,500. The final price depends on your vehicle’s size, how much of it you wrap, the film and finish you choose, and how complex the body lines are. A chrome delete or partial wrap costs much less than a full color change. Send us your vehicle details through the quote form and we’ll give you an exact price.

How long does a vinyl wrap last?

Premium cast films from 3M and Avery Dennison are built to last for years on the road. How long yours lasts depends on the color and finish, how much sun the car gets and how it’s cared for. Garage parking and regular hand washing help a wrap look good longer, especially in the Texas sun.

Will a vinyl wrap damage my car’s paint?

No, not on factory paint in good condition. A quality film installed and removed correctly comes off without damaging the original finish. Repainted or damaged panels are the exception, since aftermarket paint may not bond as strongly and can lift during removal, so we inspect your paint before we start.

Can I wrap a leased car?

Yes. Wraps are popular on leased vehicles because the film can be removed before you return the car, leaving the factory paint underneath. Check your lease terms, and plan to have the wrap removed professionally before turn-in.

Is a vinyl wrap better than a new paint job?

For most people, yes. A wrap costs less than a high-quality repaint, takes less time, can be removed later and doesn’t change your factory finish, which helps protect resale value. A repaint is permanent and usually costs more for a comparable result.

What’s the difference between a vinyl wrap and color PPF?

Both change your car’s color. Vinyl is thinner and costs less, with the widest choice of colors and finishes. Color PPF is a thicker, self-healing urethane film that also stops rock chips and scratches. If protection is your top priority, color PPF is the better choice.

What colors and finishes can I choose?

3M and Avery Dennison offer hundreds of options, including gloss, satin, matte, metallic, carbon fiber, brushed metal and color-shift films. We can show you samples at the shop so you can see colors in person before you decide.

What is a chrome delete?

A chrome delete covers the chrome trim on your car, such as window surrounds, grilles, badges and bumper accents, with vinyl, usually gloss or satin black. It gives the car a cleaner, more modern look, and it can be removed later to bring back the original chrome.

How long does a vinyl wrap installation take?

It depends on the vehicle and coverage. A chrome delete or partial wrap takes much less time than a full color change, which requires careful prep and panel-by-panel installation. We’ll give you an exact timeline with your quote.

How do I wash a wrapped car?

Hand wash with a pH-neutral soap and a soft mitt, and avoid automatic brush car washes. If you use a pressure washer, keep it on a low setting and away from edges and seams. Clean bird droppings, bugs and fuel spills quickly so they don’t stain the film.

Can I put ceramic coating on a vinyl wrap?

Yes. A coating made for wraps adds UV protection and a hydrophobic finish that makes the film easier to clean, and it works on gloss, satin and matte films. Ask us about adding ceramic coating to your wrap.
